Last Sunday I volunteered at the ‘Women’s Half Marathon‘ in Central Park. This was part of the NYRR 9+1 program.
I woke up at 5am, got dressed and drove to the city. I got in Central Park in 11 minutes, way too early. I didn’t realized that wouldn’t have traffic on Lincoln Tunnel or on 8th Ave on a Sunday at 5:30am. I always have this problem, I hate to be late so I’m always running too early, lol.
Our activities started at 6:30 and we finished at 12:30pm. I helped unfold the heat sheets and once the race started I stayed at the bagel station after the finish line.
It was pretty cool to see all the finishers and get to say congratulations.
At one point I got dizzy of seeing so many people walking in the same direction, so weird.
I got to meet lot’s of runners. Beginners like me and very experienced runners. I met a senior, he ran NYC Marathon 32 times, Boston 8 times and one marathon in each country. He was awesome!!!!
It’s a lot of work, specially to the guys who have to help with the heavy stuff, carry full trash bags, etc.
I have never really thought about how they put a race together. How they keep it so organized. It’s not easy and there is always lots and lots of volunteers.
Now I really appreciate all the hard work of the volunteers and I will try to thank them all on each race I participate. You know if I’m not dying after finishing… lol
Here are some more pictures:
THANK YOU SO MUCH volunteers! You guys are awesome!!!!!!!!
